What is tapping out? It’s letting your partner know that you give up. Jiu Jitsu is a pretty cool combat sport in that you can go pretty hard in the training room and if you get caught in a submission you can tap out and then get back to training. Unlike striking arts where the rick of going too hard is a KO and brain damage. The hardest part about tapping is swallowing your pride when you do get caught, especially when it is a 115 pound female training partner or a geeky pre-pubescent teenager. Just because you get tapped doesn’t make you less of a person it just means that jiu jitsu works! And isn’t that the point?
The other important thing to remember about tapping out is that it will save you from injury.
If you are a gym warrior and not tapping in the training room ill be honest you are stupid. I’m sorry where the glory is in hurting yourself and not being able to train. Get over yourself and learn to tap so that you can improve on your jiu jitsu. If it’s the finals of the worlds and you have 2 seconds left to survive, then i can maybe understand not tapping but even then you have to weigh the options risk vs reward.
At the end of the day it’s your perspective that needs to change. It’s like the high school quarterback who has to relive the glory days and tell the story of the time he kicked a home run goal at the buzzer. No body cares.
